Die Kristallographie befasst sich mit dem Bau, der Struktur, der Zusammensetzung, dem Wachstum und der Auflösung von Kristallen sowie mit deren chemischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften.
Die Kristalle sind hierbei Festkörper, deren Struktur aus regelmäßig, homogen angeordneten Atomen, Ionen oder auch Molekülen bestehen. Übergreifende Fachgebiete sind die Strukturchemie, die Festkörperchemie, die Mineralogie und andere.
