Vom chemischen Element Radon sind 36 Isotope sowie mehrere Kernisomere bekannt; Radon-222 ist mit einer Halbwertszeit von weniger als 4 Tagen das stabilste Radon-Nuklid.
Natürlich auftretende Radon-Isotope
Radon tritt in der Natur in äußerst kleinen Mengen als Zwischenprodukte natürlicher Zerfallsketten auf: 218Rn, 219Rn, 220Rn, 222Rn und 223Rn. Aufgrund der kurzen Halbwertszeiten zerfallen diese Isotope jedoch recht schnell und verschwinden wieder aus der Umwelt.
Radon-219
219Radon - auch: Actinon, Actinium Emanation - entsteht in der Uran-Actinium-Reihe durch Zerfall von 223Radium und zerfällt weiter zu 215Polonium.
Radon-220
220Radon - auch: Thoron, Thorium Emanation - entsteht in der Thorium-Reihe aus 224Radium und zerfällt weiter zu 216Polonium.
Radon-222
222Radon - auch: Radon, Radium Emanation, Emanation, Emanon, Niton - ist mit einer Halbwertszeit von 3,8 Tagen das stabilste Radon-Nuklid. Es entsteht als radioaktives Zerfallsprodukt in der Uran-Radium-Reihe aus 226Radium und zerfällt weiter in 218Polonium.
